Hello, I'm Caitlyn wedel and I grew up in Newton Kansas and attended Newton High, I joined FFA when I was a freshman in high school and knew I could see my future in agriculture. My chapter consisted with over 100 students and in my graduating class of 2014 there was 280 students. My parents were not farmers and we did not have cattle but we did raise horse and joined the horse project in 4-h when I was 7. I was told when I was younger that I had natural talent as a teacher, at first this took me by surprise and I wasn’t sure I wanted to teach. But as years went on and I became closer to agriculture I got the sense that this was the place for me. I became close with my Ag instructors and learned from them, positive and negatives and wanted to pursue this career. I contemplated teaching elementary education until I attended Allen CC and saw how the Ag program was dwindling I knew I wanted to be one of many to help build it back up. When I was in high school I had a passion for Horticulture and floriculture, I enjoyed working with plants, naming plants and making floral arrangements. I would really enjoy teaching those units and bringing what I have learned through my journey to students but also learn from you on knew techniques and curriculum. My future goal is to teach in a rural community where agriculture is everywhere and a big part of everyone’s lives. But again I am up for the challenge for an urban school where many students don’t know much about agriculture. I have worked with students a lot through 4-H junior leaders, 4-H ambassadors, camp counselors, Student council and Farm Bureau. I have not traveled outside of the US but have been almost everywhere in the state of Kansas and have seen other agriculture programs. I recently got engaged last December, my fiancé and i plan is to get married June of next year 2018. I plan to find a teaching job around the SE district where my fiancé is from.
